Delivery of Split Air conditioning units for Offshore Thailand

OSV delivered two explosion proof split air conditioning units for offshore Thailand during March 2009. These units are to be used to air condition and pressurize a switchgear room and an emergency shelter. Each compressor / condenser unit included an Exd control panel which contained motor contactors and overloads controlled by a Siemens Logo PLC. The PLC is programmed to achieve temperature and humidity control as well as protect components such as compressor and fan motors. The PLC also receives a permissive to start from the platform system and reports back to the platform system the unit status and alarms if there is a malfunction.

The specification for the compressor/condenser section includes:-

  • Units to be suitable to operate in a Class 1 Division 2 Group D hazardous area.
  • Condensing unit frames of 316L stainless steel.
  • Condenser coils to have copper fins and copper tubes with a coating to inhibit corrosion.
  • R407C refrigerant

Control systems included hot gas bypass to give capacity control and reverse cycle operation which would automatically provide heating at times of low heat load.

The cooling performances are 18 kW for the switchgear room and 6 kW for emergency shelter.

OSV also provided the design of the HVAC system and all other HVAC components including combined aircon/pressurizing unit, fire dampers, pressurizing dampers, grilles and cowls, differential pressure switches, external ducting, room temperature controllers and Exd control panels.

OSV specialize in designing and building HVAC systems for areas classified as hazardous such as offshore oil and gas platfroms and analyzer houses.
